A Timeless Perspective on Modern Romance

There’s something inherently captivating about a design that feels both restrained and deeply expressive- where every element is considered, and nothing is without purpose. This editorial shoot was born from a desire to explore that balance: a study in timelessness shaped through soft structure, thoughtful layering, luxurious fabrics, and an understated sense of luxury. From the movement of drapery to the quiet interplay of textures, each detail was intentionally curated to evoke a feeling rather than follow a formula- resulting in a visual narrative that feels enduring, romantic, and effortlessly refined. Follow along as I break down all of the dainty little details that came together for this stunning display.

The Venue
Whenever I approach a styled shoot, the venue is never just a backdrop—it is the foundation upon which every aesthetic decision is built. So when I was invited to help design a shoot at Hotel Winters, I knew the space itself would play a leading role in shaping the story we wanted to tell. Nestled in the heart of the quaint, slow-paced town of Winters, this boutique hotel carries a quiet sophistication that reveals itself gradually. From the outside, it feels understated and almost humble, blending seamlessly into the charm of its surroundings. But stepping inside, you’re met with an entirely different experience—one that feels both timeless and thoughtfully modern.
Hotel Winters strikes a rare balance between warmth and refinement—something I’m always seeking as a wedding planner. Its interiors are layered with rich textures, clean architectural lines, and curated details that feel intentional without ever being overwhelming. The natural light that fills the space enhances every design choice, creating an inviting, romantic atmosphere that translates beautifully into a cohesive event experience. What I love most is how elevated yet approachable it feels; it allows me to design with a sense of artistry while still creating an environment that feels comfortable and genuine for my clients and their guests. It’s this duality—the contrast between its modest exterior and its beautifully designed interior—that makes Hotel Winters such an inspiring canvas, where every element of a celebration can feel both intentional and effortlessly at home.
Some of my favorite little details...
THE most important thing when planning a photoshoot are all of the little details that come together to make one complete, dazzling final product. As a wedding planner, I am relentlessly focused on the details- however big or small they may seem. This means that I put A LOT of work into collaborating with vendors on a consistent vision, seeing how to incorporate trends or timeless pieces, and seeing how I can push design boundaries and showcase something new and unique. Here's a glimpse into all of the thought that went into the details of this particular shoot.
The Cake
The raspberry dome cake embodied a beautiful balance of modern design and timeless elegance. Its smooth, sculptural form felt both contemporary and classic, while the delicate ribbon atop served as the perfect finishing touch- an understated detail that elevated the entire piece.
The Champagne Glass Tower of Cheesecake
In this modern take on a classic tradition, Christina from Spilled Milk Co dreamed up the idea of creating a champagne dessert tower to feature next to the cake for this shoot (and we thought it was so beautiful that it deserved to be on a pedestal). She filled each champagne glass with graham cracker crust and cheesecake filling, completing with a raspberry on top. Not only did it match the aesthetic perfectly, but the dessert was DELICIOUS. It definitely felt luxurious to eat cheesecake out of a champagne glass.
The Textures
We incorporated some fun textures in this shoot to give it a rich, luxurious feel. From the sweeping chiffon layers in the backdrop, silk napkins, chiffon table runners, draped sweetheart table and premium texture menus to the ribbed champagne coups, scalloped plates and crystal glasses- every texture was carefully considered. The textures paired with the high/low table centerpieces and various sized pillars for the ceremony and dessert display added so much fun dimension to this shoot.
The Backdrop
The draped backdrop was custom created for this shoot by MG Linens and it was just dreamy!
The Draped Sweetheart Table
The draped sweetheart table was also custom created for this shoot by MG linens and the finished result had all of the soft, romantic vibes.
The Rose Bud Vases
Roses are the symbol of romance, so we knew we had to incorporate them into this shoot. Kristen from Roxie's Floral Co decided to incorporate them into bud vases running the length of one of the guest tables, and the result was simply stunning.
The Floral Pocket Square
This is one of my favorite trends right now. Kristen with Roxie's Floral Co created a floral pocket square that perfectly complimented the theme.
The Bouquet Purse
This is also a newer trend that we're starting to see. Kristen envisioned a bouquet that doubles as a fashion accessory, and it was so fun to have model Julia pose with it in different ways for photos. Such a fun, modern piece!
The Floral Hairpiece
This piece was so whimsical and romantic!
The Jewelry
I don't often get to include jewelry companies in my shoots, so having a local company provide so many pieces for this shoot was a cool experience! Featuring pieces from Ruby Noir and Solo Winters was the cherry on top of the Bridal looks.
The Editorial Style Photos
For this shoot, Kaboo and I wanted to capture the duality of soft romance and a little bit of sultry with the hopes of getting some editorial-style shots. The venue also helped provide a great canvas for these photos. We were able to get some really great elevator and bellhop cart shots and some fun shadows. The end result was pure magic- and we couldn't have picked better models for the part!
The Models
I’ve always found that there is something undeniably special about working with models who share a real-life love story- you simply can’t manufacture that kind of chemistry. For this shoot, I envisioned imagery that felt soft, romantic, and deeply in love, and Julia and Keenan embodied that vision with effortless grace. Their connection brought an authenticity to every moment, allowing each frame to feel natural, intimate, and quietly powerful. As fate would have it, they became engaged not long after our time together, and are actually getting married today as I write this- a detail that makes these images feel even more meaningful. Working with them on this shoot was an absolute joy, and it’s their genuine bond that transformed these photographs into something truly breathtaking.
