Wedding Inspiration: A Modern Minimalist Editorial Shoot in Folsom, CA

“This photo shoot was inspired by the unveiling of a beautifully reimagined modern event space. From the outset, I wanted to create a design concept that celebrated the venue’s architectural details rather than competing with them. When developing the initial vision board, I focused on a modern, airy aesthetic-one that paired clean minimalism with moments of romance, whimsy, and lightness. The goal was to demonstrate how luxury can be communicated through thoughtful restraint, refined textures, and the quiet confidence of intentional design. Today’s modern bride isn’t seeking an overabundance of décor; she’s drawn to the elegance found in the subtleties, where each element feels purposeful and elevating.”

The Background

3 years ago, I started the Wedding Professionals Network- a group that provides consistent networking and professional development opportunities to local wedding pros in the Sacramento area. Our group has grown and evolved so much in the last 3 years, that it now includes a membership called the WPNCA Preferred Pro partnership. As this part of the program has grown, we've expanded on the membership offerings over the years, and this photoshoot was one of the best opportunities that we've been able to offer Preferred Pros so far. This photoshoot consisted of an all-day photoshoot at a brand new event location in Folsom, followed by an open house at the beautifully decorated venue that we opened up to engaged couples in what we called "The Ever After Experience," as a more interactive alternative to a traditional wedding show. Our Preferred Pros were extended the invitation to participate in the styled shoot as part of their membership. I did the location scouting for this shoot, and I did all vendor and design coordination, and the final result was simply stunning. The Venue

Tucked into the charm of historic Sutter Street, Gaslight Company offers a setting that feels both intimate and unexpectedly transportive- an ideal backdrop for a celebration layered with personality. The venue unfolds across two distinctly curated spaces, each with its own mood and cadence, allowing the experience to shift seamlessly throughout the evening.

Upstairs, the main venue is airy and modern, softened by expansive windows that overlook Lake Natoma and invite in a natural glow that evolves beautifully from day to dusk. The space feels effortlessly versatile- equally suited for a seated dinner or a more fluid, cocktail-style gathering- while thoughtful design elements like customizable lighting and statement chandeliers add a quiet sense of refinement.

Just beyond, an entirely different mood awaits. The adjoining speakeasy offers a rich, moody counterpoint-dimly lit and enveloped in deeper tones, where the ambiance turns moody, layered, and deeply atmospheric. With its velvet seating, leather accents, and warm amber lighting, it evokes the romance of a bygone era-an intimate escape that feels both exclusive and indulgent. The shift between the two spaces is seamless yet dramatic, and we leaned into that duality throughout the shoot- capturing both the lightness and the depth, the softness and the edge.

It’s this balance that makes the venue so compelling: a space that doesn’t ask you to choose a single aesthetic, but instead invites a layered, multifaceted experience.

Some of my favorite little details...

As a planner, I am relentlessly obsessed with the little details that come together to make one complete, beautiful scene. This photoshoot/ vendor collaboration was filled with so many magical details that I want to spotlight. Here are some of the details that I am still obsessing over.

Connected Table Rounds

I love this type of guest table layout, and I've been seeing it more and more recently. It's a fun way to make full use of the space and incorporate guest seating in a more modern and less-structured way. Ditching the traditional round or rectangle seating to make more of an interactive work of art. The finished look is so modern and fun.

The Florals

The design of the floral pieces for this shoot was so modern, airy, and whimsical. While the floral pieces on the guest tables were minimal, they are the perfect illustration that in design- sometimes less really is more.

The Look of the Linens

The way the linens luxuriously spilled over the tables, draped in a very intentional way gave the table settings a very modern and elevated look that complimented the theme so well.

The Model

One of my favorite things about being a creative is that I get to spotlight my friends on occasion. While this usually means my wedding pro friends, on this particular shoot it meant that I got to show off my best friend Isabella as the Bride model. And she looked stunning! The speakeasy photos are some of my absolute favorite photos of her.

The Macaron Tower

Sweets have always been the way to my heart- and making them an interactive art display combines my love of both desserts and design. Jennifer from Beasley & Sons always amazes!

The Champagne Coup Glass Tower of mousse and Tanghulu

Champagne towers are extremely trendy right now, and I have enjoyed seeing all of the different creative variations of these. This variation was certainly a first for me! What a fun way to showcase this dessert by Beasley & Sons.

Waffles the Dog

Being able to have a Dog of Honor model in our shoot was also unique. We were able to showcase the work of a unique vendor (Dog of Honor) while also getting some really great staged photos with a cute dog.

The Monochrome Textured Cake

Christina at Spilled Milk Co is always so fun to collaborate with because her cake artistry is truly stunning. For this shoot, she prepared an all white cake with so much fun texture.

Multiple Photographers

We incorporated two different photographers to get different perspectives of the space- which meant that there were multiple editing styles (which I think is so fun to choose from), and double the photos for all participating vendors to have. You'll notice photos from both photographers throughout this post.
