Igniting Romance: A “Love on Fire” Real Weddings Feature

This is a photoshoot I’m especially proud of. Watching each thoughtfully curated element come together so seamlessly was incredibly rewarding. I knew from the outset that embracing a nontraditional wedding palette was a bold choice, but it was a deliberate one. My intention was to gently challenge expectations and reimagine what a wedding can feel like.

As someone who specializes in designing for the modern couple, I relished the opportunity to explore an unexpected color palette, layered textures, and a departure from convention-all while preserving an elevated, refined aesthetic. The result is a celebration that feels both deeply personal and distinctly sophisticated.

Read on to discover the many inspired details that brought this final vision to life.

The Venue

Set high above the energy of downtown, Aurora Sacramento offers a vantage point that feels both elevated and immersive-an experience that immediately sets the tone for something unforgettable. Ever since I have first stepped foot into this venue, I've been absolutely DYING to do a shoot at. There’s an undeniable sense of occasion the moment you arrive-where the rhythm of the city below meets the stillness and refinement above.

Framed by sleek, glass-paneled architecture, the rooftop showcases sweeping views of the skyline, with the striking silhouette of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament adding a layer of historic grandeur to an otherwise modern setting. It’s this juxtaposition-the clean, contemporary lines against the historic beauty of Sacramento’s architectural landmarks-that makes Aurora such a compelling canvas for design.

What makes the space particularly inspiring is its versatility. The neutral, polished aesthetic allows every design element to feel intentional and elevated, whether leaning into a minimalist, modern vision or layering in more romantic, textural details. Natural light pours in during the day, casting a soft glow that enhances every carefully curated detail, while the transition into evening brings a completely different ambiance-city lights flickering to life and market lighting overhead, creating a moody, intimate atmosphere that feels almost cinematic.

Aurora Sacramento is more than simply a setting-it’s a canvas that supports the creative direction of any design. Its balance of modern sophistication and urban energy invites a thoughtful approach, where every element feels considered and elevated. For this concept, it provided the ideal foundation to refine and showcase each detail, allowing the overall vision to unfold in a way that felt both intentional and effortlessly striking.

Some of my favorite little details...

The most important element of any photoshoot lies in the thoughtful layering of details-each one contributing to a cohesive, striking final result. As a wedding planner, my focus is unwavering when it comes to these details, no matter how subtle they may seem. I devote significant time to collaborating closely with vendors to ensure a unified vision, thoughtfully weaving together current trends with timeless elements, and exploring ways to push creative boundaries in order to present something fresh and distinctive. Here’s a closer look at the intention and artistry behind the details of this particular shoot.

Audio Guest Book

I love the new trend of audio guest books because I think it's such a fun way to add to your guest experience, while also making a really sweet wedding day keepsake for the couple. Handwriting and heartfelt messages on a guest book are one thing, but being able to actually hear someone's voice and excitement for you? Priceless.

The Florals

The florals for this shoot were simply stunning! From the fiery and bright color palette to the overall design. For the ceremony, our Bride and Groom models walked through an aisle lined with flowers, to a modern altar that was lined with flowers and candles of various heights on either side. For the reception, there were flowers everywhere! And they were positioned again at different heights to show some movement throughout the space. They were truly a work of art.

The Hand-Crafted Paperie and Hand-Tied Menus

The calligraphy woven throughout the paperie was nothing short of exquisite, effortlessly echoing the color palette of the shoot with refined cohesion. Each menu, finished with a delicately hand-tied ribbon, introduced an additional layer of customization-an understated yet striking detail that elevated the overall presentation.

The Affogatos

One treat that I've personally been getting into lately for a late afternoon or nighttime pick-me-up is an affogato. It was really unique to see this fun treat incorporated into the shoot! And it was a further illustration of the fun day to night transition of this photoshoot- from ice cream cones earlier to affogatos at dusk.

The Cocktail Outfit

Our Bride Model, Brianna, tried on many dresses and shoe combinations throughout the day, but one of the ones that I just love is the cocktail hour outfit. It featured a short white dress and some red heels which stepped right out of tradition to showcase something a little more modern and edgy. It was also super fun to be able to show off some of Brianna's fun tattoos as part of that look.

The Candlelight

All of the candles at the ceremony and reception setup really ignited the romantic feel throughout the shoot. I always say that if you are going for a more romantic ambiance for your wedding, candlelight is what you need! We simply could not have a "Love on Fire" theme without candles.

The Movement

From the varied heights of the floral arrangements to the soft flicker of candlelight, every element was composed with intention. Textured glassware caught and reflected the light, while the artful draping of napkins and ribbons at each place setting introduced a sense of fluidity and ease. Together, these layered details created a design that felt alive-infused with movement, depth, and a quiet, undeniable sense of passion.

The Food Flatlays

The food for this shoot was made by Black Hat Catering (highly recommend working with Bud!), and we were able to get some beautiful shots of it. It's not very often that you get a whole flatlay session dedicated to just getting artistic pictures of the food served at weddings.

The Cake

The cake for this shoot emerged as a striking study in abstract artistry. Thoughtfully infused with the shoot’s color palette, it balanced modernity with a sense of movement and expressive energy, resulting in a piece that felt dynamic and modern.

The Sweetheart Table Backdrop

I loved watching the team at MG Linens create this piece! It added some brightness and texture to the sweetheart table photos, and it really tied in the final look of the table.

The Photo Lighting

One of the most unique aspects of this shoot was the day to night transition. We chased the sunlight around the space to get the best detail shots of everything, and the sun set a little earlier than we anticipated. As the light in the space made way to a moodier setting, we were able to get some really beautiful shots.

The Wedding Pro Dream Team

The vendors that collaborated on this shoot were nothing short of amazing! I have included the link for the behind-the-scenes video, and all of the contributors below. I also wanted to give a special thank you to Wendy from Real Weddings Magazine for always believing in my vision, and for approaching me for this shoot. Every time we work together, the final result is pure magic. I am so thankful to have a friend in her, and to be a Real Weddings Partner and get fun opportunities like this.
